Minister for Ports V.N. Vasavan has been asked by Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Hamdullah Sayeed to reevaluate the increase in service fees at the Beypore Port, which is heavily used by ships from Lakshadweep.

Mr. Sayeed said in a letter to the Minister that the increase will have a negative impact on the ships that serve Lakshadweep, particularly in light of the suspension of passenger service from Beypore. The admission cost for ships entering the port has doubled, while service fees for cranes that hoist cargo into the ships have soared threefold. The cost of drinking water, warehouses, and tug services that bring ships to the port has increased.

Mr. Sayeed voiced concern that his attempts to resume passenger service between Beypore and Lakshadweep will also be impacted by the hike.
