According to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Azhikkal port is essential to Kannur’s growth as the government moves forward with its public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure initiatives.

The Chief Minister announced that administrative approval had been given for the construction of a customs warehouse at the port during a district-level meeting on Friday that was part of the celebrations for the fourth anniversary of the Left Democratic Front government.

He stated that the Center’s Sagarmala project was working to incorporate road development connected to the port. The government has made Azhikkal Port a priority, and maintaining sufficient depth requires appropriate dredging. Due to a unique circumstance, the previously utilized dredger had to be rerouted to Muthalakuzhi,” he said. He promised to take immediate action to resume dredging.

Although Azhikkal does not yet have an electronic data entry system in place, Mr. Vijayan stated that customs-related tasks might be managed for the time being using the Kozhikode system. According to him, plans were on to build a comparable facility at Azhikkal during the current fiscal year.
