Drones and other unlicensed aerial vehicle deployment are prohibited within five kilometers of Cochin International Airport. Microlight aircraft, aero-models, paragliders, drones, powered hang gliders, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), laser rays, and hot air balloons are also prohibited in the red zone.
The order was given by District Collector NSK Umesh, who is also the district magistrate, in response to reports from the Ernakulam rural police head and the airport director.
According to the investigations, using aerial vehicles without permission could jeopardize airplane safety. According to reports, flying such gadgets over the gliding path and close to the runway could pose a major safety risk.
In order to guarantee the safe landing, takeoff, and flight of aircraft, the collector issued the order in accordance with Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The public has been asked by the authorities to report any such activity to the local police station.
