KIAL announced that both the number of flights and passengers at Kannur International Airport have increased by 36% and 29%, respectively. The increase is in line with the May numbers that the DGCA has made public. In May, 1,47,928 passengers passed through Kannur Airport. There were 1211 services offered. The international route between Kannur and Abu Dhabi carries the most people. This route was used by 23,587 persons. The UAE accounted for 60% of all international travelers. IndiGo’s Fujairah service is the cause of this accomplishment. Ninety percent of the passengers have been using the Fujairah service daily since it began.
As a result, Kannur is now the only airport in South India that serves all five of the United Arab Emirates’ cities: Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. On domestic routes, the Mumbai sector has the most passengers. In May, 13,200 individuals used this route. This modification was made when Air India Express began operating on the IndiGo-only route.
The volume of travelers using Kannur Airport has never been this high since the GoFirst service was shut down during the 2023–24 fiscal year. Talks with both new and established airline firms are in progress. KIAL is attempting to launch services on the new route, according to officials.
