Kerala will experience a historic moment on May 2, according to Ports and Cooperation Minister VN Vasavan, who called a meeting to establish a welcome committee for the opening of the Vizhinjam International Port. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commissioning of the port will put the state at the forefront of the world economy.
The minister noted that the purpose of the meeting was to talk about the extra activities that would make the inauguration ceremony a historic occasion. In December, the Vizhinjam port’s construction was formally finished and turned over.More ships than anticipated arrived in Vizhinjam during the three-month trial period. With more than 265 ships already arriving and processing almost 500,000 containers, the port has already achieved remarkable strides. The last two tasks to be finished are road and railway links. 9.2 kilometers of the 10.7 km planned rail line will be underground. The Ministry of Railways has approved the comprehensive project study that Konkan Railway prepared.
Both the environmental and social impact studies received approval. The process of acquiring land will soon begin. A temporary 1.6-kilometer road will soon be finished after a committee led by the chief secretary struck an agreement with the National Highway Authority of India to address road connection difficulties. The commissioning of the international port’s first phase can coincide with the start of the second phase of construction.
