To expedite development work at the Beypore port in Kozhikode, measures including capital dredging—the first excavation of submerged soil for the deepening of waterways—will shortly be implemented.
At a high-level meeting on Thursday, July 17, in Thiruvananthapuram, this decision was made. According to a press release, the Kerala State Maritime Board was requested to clean the port’s drainage system in order to alleviate waterlogging on the property. The officials were requested to submit a report regarding the necessity of expanding the current system for administrative approval. Before the water channel is dredged, the environmental impact assessment report will soon be made public. The board was also asked to submit a proposal to construct a new wharf at the port.
Senior officials attended the conference, including with Ministers for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas and Ports V.N. Vasavan.
