Vizhinjam Port, Kerala’s dream project, will be put into service on May 2. The port will be dedicated to the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister’s Office sent a notification to the port authorities about this. The nation’s first transshipment container port, Vizhinjam, is now being put into service.
The port can be commissioned without getting central authorization. The biggest ships in the world have all reached Vizhinjam. As a result, commissioning doesn’t require any technical examinations. The Rs 817.8 crore central viability gap fund won’t be accessible till after commissioning. Ten years following commissioning, revenue will begin to flow to the state.
The environmental authorization for the center’s construction of the port’s further phases has been acquired. Reclaiming the water will provide land for the second stage of development. An additional 1,200 to 2,000 meters will be added to the container terminal. In order to construct a container yard that can accommodate up to 30 lakh containers annually, 77.17 hectares of land will be reclaimed through dredging. Sixty-three hectares of land were reclaimed from the sea in the first phase. In the first phase, which cost 7700 crores, the state invested 4600 crores. Tetrapod also received 1350 crores from the government. The railway will cost 1482.92 crores to convey freight.
