Kodungallur Port
Kodungallur Port, located in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India, is a historically significant and strategically positioned port on the Malabar Coast. Known in ancient times as Muziris, this port was a prominent trade center during the Roman era and a hub for maritime trade in spices, pearls, and silk. Kodungallur Port is is about 40 km north of Cochin Port. It is a riverine port in the mouth of river Periyar. The southern bank is Munambam which is in Ernakulam district and northern bank is Azhikode which is in Trichur District. Both Munambam and Azhikode are accessible from the NH-17.
Munambam is an estuary where a branch of Periyar River joins the Arabian Sea. Chalakudy and Pullut rivers also join this branch of Periyar River. Both banks of the estuary are well-developed areas. The Northern bank of Munambam harbor is 7 km away from Kodungallur municipal town, whereas, the Southern bank is 12km away from Paravur town. This estuary is 40 km North of Cochin harbor and 85 km South of Ponnani port.
