The VGF (Viability Gap Funding) agreements have been signed, completing the first phase of Vizhinjam International Port. 59 percent of the 774 individuals who have been appointed to the Vizhinjam International Port thus far are from Kerala, according to V. N. Vasavan, Minister for Ports. Out of the 534 Keralans appointed, 453 are from the district of Thiruvananthapuram. 256 of these people live in Vizhinjam. He was announcing placements and awarding diplomas to those who had finished training at the Vizhinjam Skill Development Center.

The minister also confirmed that the government is carrying out its pledge that, when it is built, the Vizhinjam international port will create a large number of local work possibilities. The minister went on to say that the LDF government is progressing by honoring its pledge to the people.

Under the direction of ASAP, the Vizhinjam Skill Development Center is growing into a significant hub that provides skill training to create employment prospects for our young people, particularly those from coastal areas. The Vizhinjam International Port is now hiring those who finished their education and training at the Skill Development Center. The Minister said that the fact that some of the recipients of the jobs are also from families of fishermen in the coastal area is a fantastic accomplishment.

By 2028, the government wants Vizhinjam Port to be completely outfitted. Beginning in July 2024, the trial run was successfully finished, and in March of this year alone, more than one lakh containers arrived. As part of port operations, 521784 TEU containers have been handled in 256 ships thus far. The Vizhnam port would provide Kerala with enormous developmental opportunities if freight transportation is made easier by road and rail connectivity. A significant portion of the nation’s freight exchange can be handled by Vizhinjam. The minister added that it may also lead to the creation of widespread job possibilities.

Six lashers and eight internal transfer vehicle drivers who had trained at the Vizhinjam Skill Development Center were given diplomas and placement orders by the minister. Additionally, he gave the women’s organization V-Smart a deal to handle all port cleaning duties.

Participating in the program were Adani Vizhinjam Port Chief Executive Officer Pradeep Jayaraman, Port Special Secretary A. Kaushik, and Dr. Divya S. Aiyer, managing director of Vizhinjam International Sea-port Ltd. Through the Vizhinjam Community Skill Park, training programs are offered in the areas of housekeeping, Lasher, and ITV (Internal Transfer Vehicle) drivers. Every one of the three Lasher course batches who finished their training has found work at Vizhinjam Port.
