A proposal to build an integrated logistics hub at Balaramapuram was filed to the industries department by Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd (KSIE), a state government entity. The project is in line with Vizhinjam International Seaport’s ambitions for industrial development.

At Kattachalkuzhi, KSIE located a 10- to 15-acre tract of land that is presently owned by Kerala Agricultural University’s Coconut Research Institute. Since the university owns the land, its approval is necessary before any further action is taken. The government is anticipated to make a decision soon.

The idea is currently being reviewed, according to APM Mohammed Hanish, principal secretary of the Industries department. “KSIE made a submission. We’ll investigate and make a conclusion soon,” he told TOI.

Peelipose Thomas, the chairman of KSIE, characterized the project as an important development endeavor that is still in its infancy. It’s a large undertaking. The approval of Agricultural University is essential. We only plan to purchase a section of the land to establish the logistics center if it is approved.

Since Vizhinjam port is only 4 kilometers away, the site is perfect,” he remarked.

In the meantime, KSIE expressed interest in purchasing a further 15-acre parcel near the port. Nevertheless, Kinfra has already given Adani Group a 110-acre parcel of land for port-related development. Any decision about the land’s distribution could be postponed because Adani Group retains ownership over it. KSIE turned its attention to Balaramapuram because of the anticipated delay in reaching the port-side land.

In addition to the logistics hub, KSIE intends to soon extend its freight operations from the airports in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.
