Security has been increased around major destinations in Kerala due to the increased tensions between India and Pakistan. These include airports, the recently opened Vizhinjam international seaport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, railway stations, naval and air bases in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, and other important establishments like the shipyard and LNG terminal in Kochi, among other locations.
The authorities at the Vizhinjam harbor have reportedly made the decision to not allow any visits, including those for personal or professional reasons, until they get more directives from the Center. Additionally, the port, which is only ten nautical miles from the international shipping route, now has more security cover.
Extra safety precautions has already been established at the Thiruvananthapuram airport, and travelers are encouraged to check flight status before arrival. Flight delays or cancellations are possible because a number of airlines have canceled some flights and grounded aircraft in various areas, according to the sources. According to airport sources, operations have gone smoothly thus far, with no cancellations reported.
According to defense insiders, the Central directives will result in increased security measures for the general public at key locations.
Additionally, the Navy has increased vigilance around Kerala’s coast, particularly in Kochi.
Major dams throughout the state, particularly those used for irrigation and power generation, are under a security alert. The number of police officers in these areas has increased.
