The Rs two billion CIAL 2.0 project, which aims to improve passenger security and entirely digitize airport operations, was inaugurated at Cochin International Airport Limited by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The project sets the standard for airport modernization by fusing development and social responsibility.

India ranked third in the world with 375 million passengers in 2023–2024, including a 21% rise in domestic travelers. By 2040, it is anticipated that there will be one billion passengers yearly, making airport readiness essential.

About 50,000 passengers and 100,000 tourists use Cochin Airport every day, and it is home to more than 400 public and private organizations, 30 airlines, and 200 business establishments.

The CIAL 2.0 project incorporates cybersecurity, automation, and artificial intelligence. It adds 4,000 AI-enabled security cameras, an automated tray retrieval system for expedited luggage screening, and full-body scanners to replace manual pat-downs. Additionally, the bomb detection system is being improved.

A commercial zone next to Terminal 3 and the apron development for an international terminal at Rs seven billion are two other current projects that will generate about 29,000 jobs.

at 2023–2024, CIAL paid out a 45 percent income to investors and provided social and infrastructure support to local communities, such as installing solar panels at the Wayanad Model Township.
