On Wednesday, Kannur International Airport held a comprehensive anti-hijack drill to evaluate the preparedness of emergency response systems and security agency coordination.

According to a news statement, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel successfully neutralized “hijackers” during the simulation, which involved an Air India aircraft, which started at approximately 11.20 a.m. and ended at noon, guaranteeing the safety of all passengers and crew members on board.

After receiving the simulated hijack alert, the airport committee, led by Sub Collector Karthik Panigrahi, convened at the air traffic control tower right away. The simulation examined protocols for handling such emergencies, including the case of a hijacked aircraft landing at the airport, and evaluated the airport’s capacity to react to real-time hijack scenarios.

The experiment was deemed successful by Mr. Panigrahi. Ashwani Kumar, the chief operating officer of Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL), organized the yearly exercise, which follows the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’s (BCAS) regulations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police K.V. Pramodhan, Chief Security Officer P. Satheesh Babu, and Chief Aerodrome Security Officer Nitin Tyagi were among the important people and agencies engaged.
