Kerala Ports Minister V N Vasavan stated in a Facebook post commemorating the first anniversary of the port’s initial docking that the Vizhinjam transshipment center has handled about 400 container ships in the last 12 months.

The port was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹8,867 crore and was created by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) under a public-private partnership model.

The minister asserted that Vizhinjam has become the leading port on the southeast coast of India and called it “one of the rare ports in the world” to start operating at full capacity within a year after its December opening last year.

392 vessels have arrived at the port overall, including 23 extremely big ships and the MSC Irina, the largest container ship in the world. Vizhinjam has already handled 8.3 lakh containers because to its growing AI and automation capabilities.
