At midnight on Sunday, a foreign cargo ship that had been stuck in the waters of Vizhinjam for a week because of an engine compressor malfunction set off. Due to a mechanical issue, the ship, MV Sira, which was traveling from Chennai to Dubai, had been stuck in the waters of Vizhinjam for the previous ten days.

The ship was still at sea when the Coast Guard’s Vizhinjam Station Commander ordered it to depart the nation within 48 hours following the Indo-Pak war. After this, the captain of the ship, Anwar Gamal, had asked the Kerala Maritime Board’s Vizhinjam Purser Vinulal for help.

This prompted the Maritime Board officials to ask Water Line Shipping and Logistics, a Thiruvananthapuram-based company, for help in delivering a compressor to address the ship’s issues. The Maritime Board’s tug, Asst. Conservator Ajeesh Mani, arrived at the ship at approximately 1:30 pm with the compressor, which had been delivered on Sunday morning. A crane was then used to move the compressor to the ship. Indians were among the 26 crew members on board.
