In conjunction with the second and third phases of Vizhinjam International Seaport’s capacity augmentation, the construction of a new fishing harbor is anticipated to start in November of this year, according to project officials who spoke to TOI.

Officials said that the Harbour Engineering Department (HED) has already put out a bid for Package 2, which entails constructing a 250-meter seaward barrier at a 45-degree angle for an estimated Rs 125 crore total cost. It is anticipated that the bidder will be chosen this month. Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd (AVPPL) is responsible for completing Package 1, which includes the basic harbor works, such as a fisheries berth and associated infrastructure.

Church representatives and leaders of the fishing community attended a stakeholders’ meeting called by Ports Minister V N Vasavan and Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian on Tuesday.

Speaking under anonymity, a senior government source stated: “The Adani Group and HED wish to start the port and breakwater projects at the same time. Thus, the development of the fishing harbor will start at the same time as the seaport’s capacity augmentation.
